Hi there – Welcome to my blog! I’m excited to have a space where I can share some of my favorite tips and tricks for feeding my family!
I’m a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD), wife, and mom of two spunky kiddos. I became an RD because my love for science/math (nerd alert!) and for food. I worked for many years in the hospital nutrition setting and then spent some time in the non-profit world working on nutrition programs. Since I had tons of training and on-the-job experience, when I was pregnant with our oldest, I thought: “well at least I won’t have to worry about what to feed him because if there’s one thing I know, I know food!”.
Then he was born…
And I realized I knew NOTHING about kids and that all the knowledge about food on the planet wouldn’t help me feed him well. Luckily, my awesome pediatrician recommended a book from Ellyn Satter called How to Get Your Child to Eat: But Not Too Much. Ellyn recommends a feeding style where you provide foods for your child to eat and a time and place for him to eat them, then the child decides if/how much he will eat.
This method clicked with me and since then I’ve done extensive study, research, and training on Ellyn Satter’s feeding principles, including an in-depth in-person workshop with Ellyn and her staff.
We’ve implemented these principles with our family, and I’ve have seen the them revolutionize parent/child relationships related to eating. I know so many families who struggle with their kids and eating and I know that the principles that Ellyn has established and that are supported by copious research will help!
So here I am – taking a professional step I’d never thought I’d take – I started Around the Table Nutrition as a way for me to work with parents who, like me, just want to nourish their kid and enjoy a meal or two along the way.
Hopefully this blog will encourage some of you! Check out the rest of my site for nutrition services I offer and some free resources : )
